Samsung is rolling out One UI 6.1 to a wide range of devices within its Galaxy ecosystem. This update expands previously exclusive AI features, originally available only on the Galaxy S24 series, to various Samsung phones and tablets.
Supported devices include the entire Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S23 FE, the mid-range Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5, as well as the Galaxy Tab S9 series. One UI 6.1 introduces a suite of new tools designed to simplify a variety of user tasks.
One of the standout features is Circle Search, an AI tool developed in collaboration with Google. Users need only to circle content on their screen to receive relevant Google search results, greatly enhancing the efficiency of information retrieval.
Additionally, the update introduces Real-time Translation, which supports bidirectional text and voice translation, even during phone calls. This feature aims to provide users with an experience reminiscent of the universal translator seen in Star Trek.
Another noteworthy addition is the Chat Assistant, integrated into the Samsung keyboard. Leveraging generative AI, this tool provides message optimization suggestions, including stylistic changes and corrections for spelling and grammar, helping users enhance their communication.
The upgrade also features Generative Image Editing, allowing users to significantly modify images—add or change backgrounds, or remove certain elements. This function is similar to the Magic Editor found in Pixel phones but has its own unique capabilities.
It’s important to note that One UI 6.1 may also introduce additional features like Browsing Assistant and Editing Suggestions, the latter providing tips for photo enhancements, although these details are yet to be confirmed.
The official release is set for March 28, when users can download and install apps from the official “Try Galaxy” page to experience the new features ahead of time. Moreover, One UI 6.1 may eventually be available for the Galaxy S22 series, with Samsung executives hinting that AI functionalities could extend to older devices, although specific details are still pending.
