Apple Abandons Plans to Integrate Meta’s AI Models Due to Privacy Concerns, Report Reveals

Days after The Wall Street Journal reported on discussions between Apple and Meta regarding the integration of Meta’s AI models, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman clarified that Apple is not pursuing this partnership.

According to Bloomberg, Apple had briefly considered collaborating with Meta back in March, as part of a broader exploration of integrating various AI models into their devices. However, this initiative was ultimately abandoned due to privacy concerns. The report emphasized that aligning with Meta could negatively impact Apple’s reputation, especially since the Cupertino-based company has consistently criticized Meta's privacy practices.

Earlier this month, Apple unveiled its own array of AI capabilities under the brand Apple Intelligence. Additionally, the company announced a collaboration with OpenAI, enabling iPhone users to access ChatGPT for certain inquiries. This partnership is not exclusive, and Apple remains interested in integrating various AI models with its devices. During its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple confirmed its collaboration with Google to deploy Gemini.

While Meta may not gain direct integration with millions of devices, it will continue to leverage its own platforms—Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Messenger—all of which boast billions of users. Recently, Meta also launched its Meta AI chatbot in India, its largest market worldwide.
