Nvidia Partners with Taiwan's Electronics Manufacturers for Innovative Digital Twin Strategy

Taiwanese electronics manufacturers are leveraging Nvidia's industrial digitalization and digital twin technology to enhance factory autonomy.

These companies, already integrated into Nvidia's supply chain as producers of AI supercomputers and PCs that utilize Nvidia chips, are now reaping the rewards of automation driven by Nvidia’s AI and graphics technologies.

The latest reference workflow encompasses Nvidia Metropolis vision AI, Omniverse for physically-based rendering and simulation, and the Isaac AI robotics platform. Together, they enable the creation of digital twins—virtual replicas of factories that allow engineers to simulate and optimize designs before physical construction begins. This iterative feedback loop incorporates real-time sensor data for ongoing design improvements.

Nvidia's significant investment in Omniverse software and Isaac robotics is indicative of its strategy to boost the adoption of AI technologies, elevating its status as an AI leader in the stock market.

Nvidia’s robotics technology is facilitating factory automation, positioning it favorably against less-equipped rivals in the industry.

During a keynote at Computex, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang underscored these advancements, noting that companies foresee the deployment of tens of millions of robotics systems. Utilizing digital twins for real-time simulation of factory layouts enables manufacturers to optimize space and processes while minimizing costs.

“AI for manufacturing is here. Every factory is becoming increasingly autonomous due to the impact of generative AI and digital twin technologies,” stated Deepu Talla, vice president of robotics and edge computing at Nvidia. “With Nvidia Omniverse, Metropolis, and Isaac, the industrial ecosystem can rapidly adopt autonomous technologies, enhancing operational efficiency and reducing costs.”

Major players such as Delta Electronics, Foxconn, Pegatron, and Wistron are using this reference workflow to enhance their robotics-equipped facilities.

In a demonstration at Computex, Huang showcased Foxconn's use of Nvidia Omniverse to create digital twins of its factories. This includes a virtual plant in Guadalajara, Mexico, where engineers define processes and train robots for optimal production of Nvidia Blackwell HGX systems.

Foxconn's operations span over 170 factories globally, and it is pioneering virtual factory simulations to optimize assembly line configurations. “Our digital twin will guide us to new levels of automation and industrial efficiency, saving time, cost, and energy,” said Foxconn Chairman Young Liu.

Foxconn is constructing its digital twin with tools from the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio and Nvidia Omniverse. The collaboration allows for seamless integration of Siemens applications into Nvidia’s cloud environment, ensuring accuracy and realism in digital representations.

Wistron has also developed digital twins to accelerate production efficiency for Nvidia’s server products. The company utilized Omniverse to reduce factory launch times significantly while improving worker productivity by over 50%.

Delta Electronics and Pegatron are similarly enhancing their operations using Nvidia technology. Delta leverages Nvidia Isaac Sim to generate data for automatic optical inspection solutions, while Pegatron connects its digital twin workflow to Nvidia’s AI inference services to improve real-time communication in its expansive factory network.

Nvidia's robotics platform, Isaac, is gaining traction among top robotics developers worldwide, including BYD Electronics and Intrinsic (an Alphabet company). These partnerships aim to integrate advanced AI technologies into autonomous robots, enhancing safety and efficiency in manufacturing environments.

With the modular Isaac platform, companies can easily adopt various technologies suited to their needs, improving the agility of operations in their production facilities.

Nvidia also announced the launch of the AI Enterprise-IGX with Holoscan, designed to tackle real-time AI processing demands at the industrial edge. This platform delivers robust performance and flexible sensor integration, empowering industries such as medical and scientific computing to deploy AI solutions efficiently.

Overall, Nvidia's innovations in digital twin technology, robotics, and real-time AI are setting a new standard for manufacturing efficiency and autonomy.
