Today, London-based Synthesia, a pioneer in AI video technology, unveiled a significant update to its platform, Synthesia 2.0, designed to enhance video-first communication for enterprises.
This update introduces several exciting features, including full-body avatars that can perform a variety of motions and an interactive video experience that allows users to create engaging AI videos with clickable elements, such as calendars and forms. Additionally, a new AI screen recorder simplifies the creation of how-to videos and other content for companies.
It's important to note that not all features will be available immediately; some will launch next month, with others rolling out in the following months.
Advancing Enterprise Communication
Founded in 2017 by a team from Stanford, the Technical University of Munich, and Cambridge, Synthesia aims to help businesses shift from dull text-based content to dynamic video presentations. The platform has evolved into a comprehensive solution allowing companies to create custom AI voices and avatars, utilizing both pre-written and AI-generated scripts to produce engaging AI videos.
Today, Synthesia serves over 55,000 businesses, including industry leaders like Zoom, DuPont, Heineken, and Electrolux. The company has made significant advancements in its AI avatars, increasing their realism and expressiveness. Just weeks ago, they revealed the Express-1 model, which enables avatars to interpret text context and sentiment, adjusting their tone and expressions accordingly.
With this update, Synthesia continues to refine its avatars by expanding their range of motion, enhancing their ability to convey captivating stories through improved body language.
Dan-Vlad Cobasneanu, Synthesia’s head of product marketing, noted that these enhancements result from training large video and audio models with data collected from thousands of individuals globally. Users will also have the ability to customize avatar appearances using images and videos, as well as create animations with precise skeleton sequences.
Personalized AI Avatars
Synthesia is improving the avatar creation process by enabling users to utilize their webcams or mobile cameras against natural backgrounds, a feature particularly beneficial for authentic presentations, like tutorials. The recorded personal avatars will boast enhanced lip synchronization and voice quality, with support for over 30 languages.
Innovative Interactive AI Videos
The updated interactive video player from Synthesia transforms content consumption. Users can embed clickable hotspots within their videos, allowing viewers to interact by filling out forms, accessing calendars, or navigating to specific video segments.
Although this feature isn't available yet, early demos indicated that users could easily set up these interactive elements by activating interactability and designing their paths. The initial capability to switch the video language will be among the first to launch.
Moreover, Synthesia is introducing an AI screen recorder that captures everything on a user’s screen. After recording, the platform's models generate a professional-quality AI video, complete with audio transcription. Users can further edit these recordings to include their avatars and apply automatic zoom effects to highlight key actions, along with updating scripts as needed.
Additional Features in Synthesia 2.0
Synthesia 2.0 also includes enhancements such as brand kits for customized video identity and bulk content generation via the AI-powered video assistant. New collaboration capabilities allow multiple users to work on projects simultaneously, and an improved one-click translation feature will facilitate the creation and maintenance of a single video version, with automatic translation updates.
As Synthesia focuses on enterprise applications with an emphasis on consent, moderation, and collaboration, it will be intriguing to see how these new capabilities impact adoption. Competing platforms in this space include Deepbrain AI, Rephrase, and HeyGen.
