270 AI Companies Now at Dingshui Lake Innovation Park: Shaping a New Hub for Shanghai's Artificial Intelligence Industry

The Lingang New Area is committed to developing the Dishui Lake AI Innovation Park, aiming to establish a new hub for the artificial intelligence industry in Shanghai and an important national center for AI enterprise aggregation. During the "Invest in Lingang" promotional event held on October 10 at the New International Expo Center, Fu Zhangjie, a researcher in the High-Tech Department of the Lingang New Area Management Committee, shared key insights.

Fu outlined the area's ambitious goals for its AI industry by 2025: to exceed a manufacturing scale of 20 billion yuan and a productive service scale of 20 billion yuan, with a target of attracting 300 AI companies and 10,000 related professionals. The event aimed to enhance Lingang's influence in emerging sectors such as new display technology, artificial intelligence, automotive electronics, and intelligent robotics. It also sought to promote regional industries, facilitate connections between supply and demand, and share cutting-edge technologies and best practices while exploring innovative models and applications.

Since its establishment five years ago, Lingang New Area has attracted many high-quality AI projects, fostering their growth in the region. The Dishui Lake AI Innovation Park, launched in August 2022, spans 11 business parks in the Lingang main area. Currently, there are 270 AI companies employing around 5,600 individuals, contributing to an industry scale of approximately 27 billion yuan. Fu emphasized that "artificial intelligence is the core driving force for enhancing urban industry and attracting talent in the Lingang main area."

The development of the AI sector in Lingang features a strong concentration of intelligent computing chips, competitive software tools, diverse smart terminal deployments, leading computing power supply, and a rich array of intelligent application scenarios. In the realm of intelligent computing chips, Lingang has gathered top domestic chip design, EDA software, and intellectual property service companies, supported by numerous innovative platforms that have established it as a significant center for the integrated circuit industry in Shanghai.

The new area has drawn over 80 software information enterprises spanning application software, data services, and talent development, including key players in the automotive and IoT operating systems. Partnerships with leading universities such as East China Normal University aim to cultivate future-oriented software talent and strengthen local workforce support.

Diverse deployments in intelligent terminals include over 40 companies across industrial robots, service robots, unmanned terminals, and core components. There are also more than 20 companies specializing in smart wearable devices, focusing on critical areas like complete devices, chips, near-eye displays, sensor interactions, and optical modules, leveraging Lingang’s advantages in tourism and manufacturing to boost XR applications.

Currently, Lingang houses eight computing power centers, accounting for nearly 20% of Shanghai's total computing capacity, with intelligent computing representing about 30%. The synergy between scenarios and industries is vital for the growth of AI in Lingang. The area supports local AI companies by providing assistance with order coordination and procurement, using its regulatory advantages to explore testing and innovative pathways in autonomous driving, cross-border data flow, international computing power scheduling, and overseas talent attraction.

During the promotional event, several projects signed agreements to set up operations in Lingang, including the Mattel Jetron R&D Center, the Pujin Precision Instrument Center, the Jingnuo Wei R&D and Manufacturing Base, and the Lingke Zhihua Data Processing Base. Mattel Jetron specializes in underwater robots and autonomous vehicles and will soon establish operations in Lingang Science and Technology City. Pujin Precision Instrument, a leader in semiconductor measurement, is investing 530 million yuan to set up its Shanghai R&D headquarters in the Jinqiao Lingang Comprehensive Area. Jingnuo Wei focuses on optical testing and measurement solutions and will move into Zhangjiang Science Park in 2025 for R&D and manufacturing. Lingke Zhihua, a provider of data intelligence solutions, aims to create a world-leading AI data processing base in Lingang New Area, offering high-quality data services and professional processing technologies to support the rapid development of the local AI sector.

Lingang is dedicated to fostering an optimal business environment and industry policies to provide the best services to businesses settling in the area. Moving forward, Lingang will accelerate the clustering of the AI industry, aspiring to become a new benchmark for Shanghai's artificial intelligence sector.
