Adobe Firefly Generative AI Models Now Available: Explore Pricing Plans and Features

One hundred seventy-six days after introducing its Firefly generative AI models in beta, Adobe has officially launched Firefly for general and commercial use within its Creative Cloud, Adobe Express, and Adobe Experience Cloud. This update means users can access features like generative fill and generative expand in Photoshop without needing to install the beta version. Additionally, Adobe is rolling out Firefly as a standalone web app, elevating it from a demo to an official offering within the Adobe suite.

Perhaps most importantly, Adobe announced the pricing structure for Firefly moving forward. To track user interactions with these models, the company will implement a system of "generative credits." Specifically, each time you click “generate” to create an image with Firefly, it will consume one credit. Notably, the Firefly web app has been redesigned to prevent automatic image generation, allowing users to make desired adjustments before initiating a create command.

Here’s a breakdown of the free generative credits users can expect based on their Adobe plans:

- Creative Cloud All Apps: 1,000 credits

- Creative Cloud Single App (including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, Animate, Dreamweaver, Stock, Photography 1TB): 500 credits

- Adobe Stock paid subscriptions: 500 credits

- Adobe Express Premium: 250 credits

- Adobe Firefly Premium: 100 credits

- Creative Cloud for Enterprise All Apps: 1,000 credits

- Creative Cloud Pro Plus All Apps: 3,000 credits

- Free users with an Adobe ID; Adobe Express, Adobe Firefly, Creative Cloud: 25 credits

If users exhaust their credits—except for a few plans—they will still retain access to Firefly, though performance may slow down significantly. Subscribers of Adobe Firefly and Adobe Express Premium will receive only two generations per day until their count resets at month-end, but additional subscription packs will be available. Specific pricing for these additional plans has not yet been disclosed.

Additionally, until November 1, users subscribed to Creative Cloud, Adobe Firefly, Adobe Express, and Adobe Stock will not face credit limits.

“All of these models are very large, operate in the cloud, and are costly to maintain. Our focus is on output quality rather than inference speed,” explains Alexandru Costin, Adobe’s VP for Generative AI and Sensei. “We aim to protect our user base and ensure fair use of the service.”

Costin shared insights that the team had considered a token-based system, but feedback indicated it would be too complex for users to navigate.

Adobe reports that users have generated over 2 billion images with Firefly to date. Costin emphasized that since the models were primarily trained with images from Adobe Stock, they are safe for commercial use. The company has also committed to indemnifying its enterprise users against possible lawsuits arising from the use of Firefly-generated images.

With Firefly, Adobe is making significant strides in the generative AI landscape.
