On Tuesday, Adobe unveiled an exciting new feature for Lightroom called Generative Remove. Powered by Firefly, this innovative GenAI tool allows users to effortlessly edit and eliminate objects from photos with precision. The feature is now available for early access.
According to Adobe, Generative Remove handles even the most intricate backgrounds with ease. “This tool is ideal for tackling challenging scenarios,” the company stated, “such as removing stains from patterned fabrics, smoothing wrinkles in tablecloths during food photography, eliminating unwanted water reflections, and more.”
Adobe took its first step into the realm of generative AI back in March 2023. “Firefly marks a significant evolution in our AI capabilities,” the company explained at the time. “It combines our cutting-edge ‘gentech’ models with extensive expertise in imaging, typography, illustration, and other creative domains to generate high-quality assets.” Adobe aims to enhance its customers' workflows across Creative Cloud, Experience Cloud, and Document Cloud.
At its launch, Firefly offered text-to-image generation and the ability to reimagine images in various styles. In the following 14 months, Adobe has integrated Firefly into its video tools, utilized it for crafting vector graphics in Illustrator, and introduced a Generative Fill feature. The company is actively collaborating with the photography community to refine and expand the capabilities of the new Remove tool.
Additionally, Adobe announced the generative introduction of Lens Blur, a feature designed to create stunning bokeh-like effects in images, enhancing the overall sense of depth and artistic flair.
