Adobe is rolling out new tools and generative AI features in its Illustrator and Photoshop design software, aimed at enhancing creative workflows. A standout update in Illustrator is the introduction of the Firefly Vector AI model, now available in public beta.
This model powers innovative features such as Generative Shape Fill, which allows users to create detailed vectors from descriptive text prompts. Additionally, the improved Text to Pattern feature generates scalable, customizable vector patterns, perfect for applications like wallpaper design. The Style Reference feature generates outputs that echo existing styles, enhancing creative flexibility.
Beyond generative AI, Illustrator's update includes a Dimension tool that automatically adds sizing information to projects, a Mockup feature for visualizing designs on 3D products, and Retype, which converts static text in images into editable formats.
Photoshop is also benefiting from significant enhancements. The Generate Image feature, powered by the Firefly Image 3 Model, is available in both desktop and web apps, while the Enhance Detail feature for Generative Fill improves sharpness and detail in larger images. Furthermore, the Selection Brush tool simplifies the process of selecting and isolating specific objects on the canvas, making it easier to edit without manual masking.
These updates are part of Adobe's continued commitment to leveraging generative AI since the introduction of its initial Firefly model last year. The company emphasizes its focus on ethically training its AI models on licensed content and clarifies that customer projects will not be used for AI training. This commitment comes in response to concerns from some creative professionals about the potential for generative AI features to diminish job opportunities.
"Our goal is to empower all creative professionals to realize their creative visions," said Deepa Subramaniam, Adobe Creative Cloud’s vice president of product marketing. "We believe that each technological advancement presents opportunities to innovate and deliver new products, focusing on harnessing generative AI to amplify human creativity and expression, not replace it."
