As Microsoft showcased its ambitious AI strategy at the Build developer conference, it became evident that no area of the company will remain untouched by artificial intelligence. Alongside the integration of "Copilot" into Windows 11 and Edge, Microsoft revealed the introduction of the AI Hub in the Microsoft Store.
The AI Hub is a curated section dedicated to showcasing the top AI experiences developed by both Microsoft and the developer community. It aims to educate users on how to begin and expand their AI journey, highlighting ways to enhance productivity and inspire creativity. Notable applications featured include Luminar Neo, Descript, Podcastle, Copy.ai, Kickresume, and Play.ht, all designed to assist users in content creation.
Additionally, the Microsoft Store will implement AI-generated review summaries, consolidating user feedback on apps and games into concise overviews. This innovation will help users avoid sifting through extensive reviews, especially for highly-rated applications.
For Windows Insiders, a preview feature will restore Store app icons when upgrading to a new Windows 11 device. Transitioning from a Windows 10 or 11 setup will allow users to have their app icons automatically restored to their previous locations on the Start menu and Taskbar.
Developers will benefit from AI enhancements as well, including automatically generated keywords and suggested search tags in the Partner Center. This AI functionality will analyze metadata and other signals to improve app discoverability in Microsoft Store search results. Furthermore, developers will have the option to list their apps in multiple categories for better visibility.
Microsoft Store Ads are set to expand, with plans to incorporate them into Bing search results next month. This means that users searching online will also be informed about relevant Windows apps. The advertising reach will extend to over 150 regions worldwide, giving developers the opportunity to showcase their apps prominently within the Store.
Most of the consumer-focused features announced for the Microsoft Store are expected to be available soon, although specific launch dates have not been disclosed. Clearly, Microsoft is committed to integrating AI across all facets of its business and products, signaling a robust rollout in the near future.
