Ant Group Makes Strides in Generative AI with 20 Papers Selected for AI Top Conference eurlPS

The Rise of Artificial Intelligence: Insights from NeurIPS 2023

As the artificial intelligence (AI) movement accelerates, Chinese internet companies are striving to keep pace. The prestigious NeurIPS 2023 conference, held from December 10 to 15 in New Orleans, Louisiana, attracted immense interest, receiving 12,343 valid paper submissions, with an acceptance rate of only 26.1%. Ant Group stood out with 20 accepted papers, emphasizing its dedication to advancing AI research.

NeurIPS is recognized as a premier conference in AI and machine learning, alongside ICML, renowned for its rigorous peer review process and impactful research. The papers accepted from Ant Group delve into cutting-edge topics such as computer vision, natural language processing, graph neural networks, and image processing. Notably, over 70% of these papers tackle challenges arising from the rapid growth of generative AI (AIGC) over the past year.

One standout paper, "Time Series Forecasting Based on Learnable and Interpretable Basis," builds on prior ICLR 2022 research. This study employs a cross-attention mechanism to decompose time series into learnable bases, leveraging historical weights and future components to enhance forecasting accuracy across various scenarios, including electricity consumption and traffic patterns.

Another significant contribution is from the paper "Benchmarking and Analysis of 3D Perception Image Generation Based on a Modular Codebase." This research clarifies which algorithm modules are critical when using mixed techniques for 3D image generation. The structured codebase, called Carver, enables developers to independently create and replace modules, thereby improving the accuracy and efficiency of 3D image development.

The paper "Continuous Learning with Prompt Pool and Temporal Point Process Models" addresses a traditional limitation in training temporal models, which often produce static results after deployment. This research introduces the PromptTPP continuous learning model, which maintains ongoing learning and updates its performance and knowledge base. This innovative model significantly enhances prediction accuracy in scenarios with distinct time-based characteristics, such as financial market analysis and traffic flow.

On the conference's first day, Ant Group hosted a workshop titled "Exploring the Applications of Knowledge-Enhanced AI in Vertical Industries." This session explored advancements in big data-driven machine intelligence over the past year and tackled common issues in specialized vertical applications, such as challenges with generative content hallucinations and biases. The workshop emphasized how knowledge-enhanced AI can integrate domain expertise with machine intelligence, fostering a collaborative human-machine interaction model that promotes fairness and stability.

Over the past five years, Ant Group has published nearly 500 papers in top-tier international academic journals and conferences, with over 300 focused on AI. The company continues to invest in AI technologies that cater to diverse business needs, encompassing knowledge graphs, operational optimization, graph learning, trustworthy AI, and large models. The NeurIPS 2023 conference also showcased submissions from global tech giants like Google, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and Alibaba, further underscoring the event's importance in the AI landscape.
