Anthropic launched its Claude Android app on Tuesday, expanding the accessibility of its AI chatbot to a broader audience. With this move, Anthropic aims to persuade users to transition from ChatGPT by offering Claude in more convenient formats.
The Claude Android app mirrors the functionality of the iOS version released in May, providing free access to Anthropic’s advanced AI model, Claude 3.5 Sonnet. Users can also explore upgraded features through Anthropic’s Pro and Team subscriptions. An appealing aspect of the app is its ability to sync conversations across devices, allowing users to seamlessly continue interactions. Additionally, the app supports photo and file uploads for real-time image analysis. The inclusion of real-time language translation further enhances its appeal, providing a compelling reason for users to engage with the app.
Moreover, the app caters to enterprise customers, enabling them to manage their Claude accounts on mobile devices.
Despite Anthropic's assertion that its AI models rival those of OpenAI and Google, the company has faced challenges in gaining consumer traction. The initial reception of the Claude iOS app was modest, with only 157,000 downloads in its first week. In contrast, the ChatGPT iOS app achieved 480,000 installs within its first five days on the market.
