Apple is developing a groundbreaking artificial intelligence initiative known as "Apple GPT," aimed at competing with OpenAI's ChatGPT. In recent months, the company has prioritized advancing its AI capabilities. Similar to prominent language models like ChatGPT, Microsoft's Bing, and Google's Bard, Apple has established an "Ajax" framework for its AI projects and is testing an internal chatbot referred to as "Apple GPT." The Ajax platform leverages Google's Jax machine learning framework and operates on Google Cloud.
Reports suggest that Apple explored a partnership with OpenAI and conducted tests of its technologies, but ultimately opted not to pursue the collaboration. While there are no official announcements regarding the release of Apple GPT, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has indicated that a launch may be anticipated in 2024. The AI division is spearheaded by John Giannandrea, head of AI, along with Craig Federighi, head of software engineering.
