Apple has introduced exciting new AI capabilities in its latest developer betas for iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS 15.1, including a remarkable feature that allows users to remove unwanted objects from photos.
This innovative feature, named Clean Up, empowers users to seamlessly identify and eliminate objects from their pictures without disturbing the rest of the image. With smart detection, a simple tap can remove an object, while users can also opt to draw a circle or brush over any unintended elements to delete them with ease.
Apple has revealed that this functionality leverages advanced AI technology to intelligently reconstruct the background after an object is removed. The system is adept at recognizing shadows and reflections, ensuring they are appropriately removed when replacing the background.
Earlier this year, Google unveiled a comparable feature called Magic Eraser for Google Photos, which is available for free.
Since July, Apple has been methodically testing its suite of Apple Intelligence features within the iOS 18.1 developer betas. These enhancements include writing tools, notification summaries for SMS and Mail, natural language search capabilities in Photos, transcription for calls and voice recordings in Notes, as well as a smart replies feature in Mail. Currently, Apple Intelligence is accessible to English-speaking users with their region set to the U.S.
