Brave Unveils AI Assistant for iPhone and iPad Users

Brave announced on Wednesday the launch of its AI assistant, Leo, for iPhone and iPad users. This innovative assistant enables users to ask questions, summarize web pages, generate content, and much more. The move to iOS follows the successful debut of Leo on Android and desktop platforms.

The iOS version of Leo introduces a voice-to-text feature, a capability not present in the Android version. This allows users to speak their queries aloud, which are then converted into text, eliminating the need for manual typing. According to Brave, this enhancement simplifies user interactions with the AI.

Leo is not just a summarizer; it can provide answers to questions about the content it analyzes, generate long-form reports, translate or rewrite text, create transcriptions for videos or audio, and even write code. With Leo, Brave aims to offer users a comprehensive alternative to services like ChatGPT.

Leo users have access to various language models, including Mixtral 8x7B, Anthropic’s Claude Instant, and Meta’s Llama 2 13B. Mixtral 8x7B is set as the default language model for Leo, but users can choose different models or upgrade to Leo Premium for enhanced rate limits at a monthly fee of $14.99.

Brave is not alone in rolling out AI assistants; Opera launched its own AI assistant named Aria last year. Built in collaboration with OpenAI, Aria features a chatbot interface that facilitates instantaneous responses to user inquiries.

Leo is now available for all iOS users who have updated to version 1.63. To access Leo, users can simply open the browser, begin typing in the address bar, and select "Ask Leo." This feature is opt-in and can be disabled in the app’s settings.

With Leo, Brave continues to enhance its browser, providing users with powerful AI-driven tools across platforms.
