ChatGPT's Mobile App Achieves Record Growth This Month

The launch of OpenAI’s groundbreaking GPT-4o "omni" model in May has significantly boosted revenue for the ChatGPT app. Following an impressive increase after the model’s debut, OpenAI’s mobile chatbot achieved its highest revenue month ever. In July, the app generated $28 million in net revenue from both the App Store and Google Play, according to app intelligence firm Appfigures.

It's important to note that net revenue reflects the amount OpenAI retains after deducting in-app purchase fees from Apple and Google. The data reveals that a remarkable 83% of the app's revenue came from Apple’s App Store, marking a 20% increase since June.

In terms of gross revenue, the ChatGPT app achieved $28.9 million in May, $34 million in June, and $39.9 million in July.

With the introduction of GPT-4o, ChatGPT now boasts enhanced capabilities, enabling it to handle text, speech, and video. Additionally, the model offers quicker response times and allows users to interrupt conversations, resulting in more natural and human-like interactions.

The high demand for this innovative technology propelled ChatGPT’s app revenue by 40% in May. Although growth has slightly moderated since then, revenue continues to rise steadily. In July alone, the app's revenue growth resulted in an estimated addition of 2 million new paying subscribers, setting a record for the mobile application.

Furthermore, with the launch of the new Advanced Voice Mode, which facilitates near real-time and realistic interactions, Appfigures anticipates continued growth in the upcoming months.
