China Meteorological Administration Launches AI-Driven Weather Forecast Model Demonstration Program

At the recent 7th Digital China Summit, during the Digital Meteorology sub-forum, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) introduced an innovative artificial intelligence meteorological forecasting model. This cutting-edge AI system will leverage real-time data from the CMA to deliver accurate weather forecasts up to 15 days ahead.

The demonstration will encompass five key types of forecast products:

1. Upper-air meteorological elements

2. Surface weather conditions

3. Quantitative precipitation forecasts

4. Typhoon path and intensity predictions

5. Severe weather event forecasts

These products will be generated in real-time within a standardized operational framework. The initiative aims to engage participating units to identify and test suitable models, with formal demonstrations slated to commence in September.

Additionally, the CMA plans to enlist experts to assess the advanced capabilities of these forecasting models and will enhance collaboration with leading AI development teams to improve their operational applications.
