China's Core Artificial Intelligence Industry Approaches 600 Billion Yuan in Scale

The 2024 World Intelligent Industry Expo will be held in Tianjin from June 20 to June 23. This significant event will present the "2024 Report on the Development of China's Next Generation Artificial Intelligence Technology Industry," highlighting that the number of AI companies in China has exceeded 4,000. AI is becoming a crucial force and strategic technology, driving a new wave of technological and industrial transformation.

China is committed to advancing AI through a seamless integration of the internet, big data, AI, and the real economy, fostering a vibrant intelligent industry. In 2023, the core AI sector in China reached 578.4 billion yuan, growing at a rate of 13.9%. The adoption of generative AI among companies is currently at 15%, with a market size estimated at about 14.4 trillion yuan.

Under the theme "Intelligence Drives the World, Innovation Shapes the Future," the opening ceremony on June 20 will feature discussions among industry leaders on intelligent industry development trends. Experts agree that as the "AI+" initiative deepens, the AI industry is positioned for significant growth opportunities.

Zeng Yi, Chairman of China Electronics Corporation, underscored the importance of a balanced approach to AI development, stating, "We cannot afford to be slow, but we must not rush." He emphasized the need to move beyond entertainment-centric applications to enhance industrial systems and chains, promoting technological advancement. He highlighted the simultaneous development of three key technologies: large AI models, brain-machine interfaces, and cognitive neuroscience.

Yang Yuanqing, Chairman and CEO of Lenovo Group, asserted that AI must act as a powerful innovation driver. He noted that leveraging "new" technologies can enhance quality and efficiency, benefiting businesses and individuals alike. Yang called for an accelerated focus on developing new AI technologies, products, and business models, particularly in AI edge innovations to enhance accessibility.

Breakthrough technologies such as large AI models, intelligent driving, smart connectivity, and intelligent cockpit systems are positioning China as a leader in the global electric vehicle market. Zhang Xinghai, Chairman of Seres Group, discussed the company's commitment to smart electric vehicle development through software-defined technology, while exploring cross-industry integration solutions. With 1.4 million over-the-air (OTA) updates completed and 265 million kilometers of intelligent driving mileage, Seres ranks among the world's top players. Zhang noted that the penetration rate of new energy vehicles in China has reached 50% and anticipates rapid adoption of intelligent driving technologies in the coming years.
