Claude by Anthropic Achieves Over $1 Million in Mobile App Revenue

After 16 weeks of development, Anthropic’s AI application, Claude, has achieved a significant milestone by generating over $1 million in gross revenue from mobile app downloads on both iOS and Android platforms. According to data from app intelligence firm Appfigures, nearly half of this revenue has come from users in the United States.

Despite this achievement, Claude remains far behind its main competitor, ChatGPT, which leads the pack with the highest number of downloads and ranks 26th in revenue on iOS in the U.S. In comparison, Claude stands at 95th in the Productivity category for downloads and 68th for revenue.

Earlier this year, we reported that Claude experienced a lukewarm introduction in its first week, garnering only 157,000 downloads worldwide. In contrast, ChatGPT saw 480,000 installs within just five days of its U.S.-only iOS launch. Claude's highest ranking occurred shortly after its iOS debut, when it reached No. 55 in the top free iPhone apps, as reported by Appfigures.

Notably, Claude managed to reach its first million in revenue faster than other AI app competitors. While it lagged behind ChatGPT, which achieved this milestone in just three weeks, Claude outpaced Microsoft’s Copilot and Perplexity, which took 19 weeks and 22 weeks, respectively.

The largest market for Claude by downloads is the United States, accounting for 32.5% of installs, followed by India (9.6%), Japan (6.8%), the U.K. (5.1%), and Germany (3.2%). Together, these top five countries represent 57.2% of Claude’s mobile app downloads.

The revenue distribution mirrors this trend, with the U.S. again leading with 48.4% of total revenue. Japan follows at 6.7%, Germany at 4.3%, the U.K. at 4.3%, and South Korea at 2.8%, making up a total of 66.8%.

As Claude navigates the competitive mobile landscape, its challenges are likely to intensify, especially with the upcoming launch of Apple Intelligence, which will provide Siri users direct access to ChatGPT via their iPhones.
