Cohere Launches Toolkit to Speed Up Generative AI Application Development for Enterprises

Cohere has launched a developer kit designed to streamline and accelerate the creation of enterprise AI applications. This comprehensive toolkit features an open-source repository of deployable apps compatible with any cloud provider and includes essential components for building unique applications at scale.

“A key challenge in developing AI applications is that developers must integrate AI models, prompt templates, retrieval pipelines, and user interfaces with relevant backend code, all in a secure environment,” explained Elaine Gao and Beatrix De Wilde from Cohere. “This intricate process can take months as developers experiment with how these components fit together.”

The Cohere toolkit allows users to leverage the company's Command, Embed, and Rerank models across platforms like Amazon Web Services, Azure, and Cohere, with plans to add more options soon. The first application available is a retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) knowledge assistant, designed to quickly surface information, automate tasks, and enhance team collaboration.

Additionally, the toolkit includes plug-and-play components and source code for chat user interfaces, enabling developers to efficiently interact with Cohere’s Command R and R+ models, as well as tools for creating effective retrieval systems. Cohere asserts that deploying an application only requires a few straightforward steps.

Gao and De Wilde further clarify that “developers just need to point the code to the model locations to create a scalable application ready for deployment.” The applications are customizable, and developers are encouraged to contribute new additions to the Cohere repository.

By releasing this toolkit, Cohere aims to minimize the planning and research burdens that enterprise development teams typically face. This approach mirrors the innovation seen with Platform-as-a-Service providers like Parse, Heroku, and AWS Amplify, which have simplified cloud and mobile app development. Cohere's strategy allows companies to focus more on creativity and business processes rather than the complexities of implementing AI applications.

The Cohere toolkit is now available on the company's GitHub repository.
