D-ID, the innovative Tel Aviv startup recognized for its captivating technology that transforms still family photos into animated videos, is excited to announce the launch of its new mobile app today. Previously available as a web platform, D-ID’s Creative Reality Studio empowers users to upload images and scripts to create stunning AI-generated videos. This technology enables users to digitalize their own likeness, historical figures, fictional characters, presenters, or brand ambassadors.
The company initially focused on use cases in corporate training, education, and communication—both internal and external—as well as product marketing and sales, as reported by industry sources.
Now, with the D-ID app available on mobile, users can easily download it from the App Store or Google Play. New users can create an account, while existing users can log in. On the app’s selection screen, users can choose a pre-made "digital person" provided by D-ID or upload their own image from their device’s photo library. They can then enter the desired text for the digital avatar to speak, available in 119 languages, and select from various male and female voice options. Additionally, users can customize the tone of speech to convey emotions such as cheerful, excited, friendly, hopeful, sad, or even terrified.
To power its innovative platform, D-ID utilizes a combination of proprietary and open-source AI technologies, according to CEO Gil Perry. “At its foundation is a sophisticated model that generates video frames based on audio input. All our products benefit from a robust API that enables video rendering at an industry-leading 100 frames per second, four times faster than real-time,” explains Perry.
The primary audience for this app includes AI enthusiasts, but it's also designed for anyone looking to create videos featuring digital personalities—whether they be themselves, historical figures, or even fictional creations. “Our app provides the flexibility to generate videos anywhere, reducing production costs while offering easy video creation on the go,” Perry adds.
The videos can be up to 10 minutes long and adhere to the strict moderation policies of the web version, ensuring the technology is not misused for generating deepfakes that could foster misinformation. D-ID is committed to respecting copyright laws, complying with AI regulations, and avoiding partnerships in “contentious areas” such as political parties, adult content, or arms manufacturers.
Prior to its mobile debut, the desktop version of Creative Reality Studio experienced a surge of 60,000 new sign-ups daily, with over 150 million videos created on the platform, according to Perry. The API service has attracted more than 200,000 users, and the mobile app aims to engage a broader audience, particularly mobile-first users who seek a streamlined experience.
The new mobile service operates on a subscription model, starting at just $5.99 per month. Current desktop subscribers will maintain their existing plans, and a 14-day free trial is also available.
Despite being headquartered in Tel Aviv, D-ID has a global workforce that continues operations amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. "Our teams in Israel and around the world are committed to providing exceptional support," Perry states. "Special mention must be made of our team in Ukraine, who are working with great dedication to support our colleagues in Israel."
D-ID successfully secured a $25 million Series B funding round last year, fueled by the popularity of its Deep Nostalgia project and the spin-off, LiveStory. These initiatives focused on animating historical family photos, and with added audio, these videos went viral, allowing users to create animated memories of long-lost loved ones. Since then, D-ID has been working on developing a photorealistic interface for ChatGPT as part of its broader ambitions in AI technology.
