Apple has officially launched WWDC 2024, revealing several exciting updates related to visionOS. The standout announcement is a groundbreaking feature that enables users to transform existing images into spatial photos. This innovative tool leverages machine learning technology to create additional angles, moving away from the previous requirement for photos to be taken exclusively with the iPhone 15 Pro or the Vision Pro headset.
This feature aims to enhance content creation for the Vision Pro headset, which Apple first introduced at last year’s WWDC. Now, users can convert older photos captured on previous devices, addressing the slow start of Apple's long-anticipated venture into the mixed reality landscape.
While the effectiveness of machine-generated images is still under review, they may not achieve the same level of detail as photos taken with depth cameras. This new functionality will be part of the upcoming visionOS 2 release, expected later this year. Additionally, Apple announced that the previously U.S.-exclusive headset will soon be available in more countries, broadening its accessibility for users worldwide.
