eBay Introduces AI-Enhanced ‘Shop the Look’ Feature in iOS App for a Better Shopping Experience

On Tuesday, eBay unveiled an exciting new feature powered by generative AI, designed specifically for fashion lovers: the “Shop the Look” section within its iOS mobile app. This feature curates a personalized carousel of images and outfit ideas tailored to each user's shopping history. eBay emphasizes that these recommendations will adapt and become more refined as customers explore the platform, showcasing how complementary fashion items can enhance their existing wardrobe.

The “Shop the Look” section incorporates interactive hotspots. When users tap on these areas, they will discover similar fashion items and outfit inspiration. The curated selections will feature both pre-owned and luxury pieces that align seamlessly with the user’s unique style preferences. Developed in partnership with eBay’s Responsible AI team and guided by RAI Principles, this feature is powered by eBay.ai.

This feature will be accessible to any eBay shopper who has browsed at least ten fashion items in the past 180 days. It will be prominently displayed on both the eBay homepage and the fashion landing page.

For eBay, this new innovation provides a fresh way to highlight its extensive inventory, potentially driving increased sales if it resonates with customers. The company plans to expand this feature to other categories over time, continually enhancing its personalization elements throughout the upcoming year.

eBay is not alone in leveraging AI to enhance the fashion shopping experience. Last summer, Google introduced a virtual try-on feature, allowing consumers to visualize clothing on themselves. Similarly, Amazon has implemented AI tools to assist customers in finding the right fit when shopping online. While these initiatives focus heavily on fit and size, eBay’s "Shop the Look" feature emphasizes fashion inspiration, recognizing that personal style can be subjective and more challenging to define.

Initially, "Shop the Look" will be available on iOS in the U.S. and U.K., with Android support expected later this year.
