Enhanced Generative AI Features Unveiled by IBM and USTA at 2024 US Open

When the U.S. Open begins on August 19th, spectators and athletes can expect an enhanced experience, thanks to various watsonx-powered fan features on the tournament's digital platforms. IBM and the USTA are collaborating to introduce advanced generative AI capabilities for the 2024 U.S. Open, including detailed post-match summaries, improved AI commentary, and a revamped SlamTracker providing insights throughout the tournament.

This partnership will not only elevate the U.S. Open experience but also offer AI-driven resources for professional development to students and educators. New for this year, IBM is launching AI-generated match report summaries for every men's and women's singles match, available within minutes of the game's conclusion. These reports, developed using IBM's watsonx platform and the USTA's data standards, will include player performance analysis, statistics, and highlights. Before publication, the USTA editorial staff will review and enhance the content with context and commentary.

These match reports will enable the USTA to deliver timely and comprehensive coverage for all 254 main draw singles matches across seventeen courts. IBM's AI commentary, introduced last year, will also be back to provide automated English audio and subtitles for summary highlight videos of the men's and women's singles matches. Using watsonx, including the Granite 13B LLM, this year's commentary promises to be more frequent, expressive, and contextually rich, with highlight packages available minutes after each match concludes.

Moreover, the redesigned SlamTracker will offer fans detailed insights before, during, and after matches, including win predictions, point-by-point analysis, and comprehensive previews and recaps for all men's and women's singles matches.

In addition to the technological advancements, IBM and the USTA's philanthropic arm, the USTA Foundation, are collaborating to provide free career readiness training through IBM SkillsBuild for students, teachers, and the public. This initiative supports the USTA Foundation's aim to enhance education engagement among underserved youth and aligns with IBM's commitment to upskilling 30 million individuals by 2030.
