Running a small business requires maximizing efficiency with limited resources. While AI agents hold promise, creating customized agents for specific workflows can be daunting, even with the advent of low-code and no-code tools. Enter Enso, which recently emerged from stealth mode by securing a $6 million seed funding round on Tuesday. Enso aims to equip small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) with a diverse array of pre-built AI agents designed to streamline repetitive tasks.
Founded by Mickey Haslavsky, co-founder of the API development platform RapidAPI, Enso provides tailored agents for various industries, empowering users to manage everything from search engine optimization to social media engagement, competitor tracking, newsletter creation, invoicing, and Amazon store optimization. Enso pretrains and customizes these agents for approximately 70 industries, including sectors like accounting and automotive, boasting over 1,000 bots in total.
Haslavsky shared that his motivation for launching Enso was rooted in his parents' experiences running a small music production company and a secondary school. Much like his previous venture, RapidAPI, Enso focuses on seamless integrations to enhance business functionality.
“When I delved into the AI agent space, it became clear to me that these agents could bridge the gap between small and large businesses by providing smaller enterprises with accessible services alongside existing software solutions,” Haslavsky explained. “However, I quickly discovered that many current AI agents are flawed. On the positive side, I recognized the tremendous business potential here; automating services that typically cost $1,000 a month through agencies could be a game-changer.”
Many of the bots offered by Enso seek to blend the reliability of traditional workflow automation—known for their dependability but requiring meticulous step-by-step programming—with the imaginative abilities of large language models (LLMs). Haslavsky noted that these bots follow a structured process to manage a business's Instagram account, where the LLM generates the copy and design, all within a defined workflow complemented by a conventional scheduling system.
For instance, Enso's podcast agent automatically scripts episodes and utilizes ElevenLabs for text-to-speech conversion, while integrating a music service for the introduction and conclusion and a video service to produce a visual counterpart.
A distinctive feature of Enso is its à la carte pricing model, with access to each agent costing between $29 and $79 monthly. Haslavsky opted for this approach to accommodate the budget constraints of most SMBs and to streamline the purchasing process.
The key question, however, is the effectiveness of these bots in practical settings—and whether businesses are ready to delegate certain functions to AI agents. For tasks like podcasting and newsletter creation, human oversight is often required. If the quality of the AI-generated output is average and demands significant editing before publication, justifying a subscription fee of $59 or more (or multiple subscriptions) may prove challenging. Conversely, agents focused on generating reports or handling SEO could be more readily accepted, as these functions don't carry the same expectations for personalization.
Looking ahead, Enso plans to introduce a marketplace for third-party agents, and the team is currently developing low-code/no-code visual tools for agent creation. Presently, their focus remains on establishing foundational integrations critical for this expansion.
The $6 million seed funding round was spearheaded by NFX, with participation from notable angel investors, including Yossi Matias, head of Google Research, and Shmil Levy, a former partner at Sequoia Capital.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, yet they have largely missed out on the AI revolution,” remarked Gigi Levy-Weiss, partner at NFX Ventures. “While larger companies leverage AI to enhance productivity, small businesses struggle with basic administrative tasks. Enso addresses this gap by democratizing AI, providing enterprise-grade tools to emerging companies. We are excited to support Enso as it reshapes the business landscape and empowers traditional enterprises to thrive.”
