Google Removes Misleading Gemini Video from Search Results

Google has removed an intriguing demo video of its Gemini AI, initially released last December. This video showcased Gemini’s ability to respond conversationally to various spoken prompts, demonstrating tasks like identifying elements in drawings and generating a geography game spontaneously. However, the BBB National Programs’ National Advertising Division (NAD) questioned whether the video accurately represented Gemini's performance. To resolve this inquiry, Google opted to discontinue the video promotion, noting that the showcased interactions may not fully reflect the AI's capabilities.

In the video description, a disclaimer mentioned that “latency has been reduced and Gemini outputs have been shortened for brevity,” indicating that viewers may not have seen the AI’s full performance. Additionally, an early note in the video stated, “Sequences shortened throughout,” emphasizing that the demonstration was condensed. Oriol Vinyals from Google DeepMind specified that the video aimed to illustrate what “the multimodal user experiences built with Gemini could look like.”

A spokesperson for Google expressed satisfaction with NAD's resolution regarding the matter, confirming that the video remains accessible alongside a blog post detailing its creation.
