Google Unveils Innovative AI-Powered Features to Transform Education

Google has unveiled an array of exciting new features for classroom management, accessibility, and AI-enhanced tools for crafting questions and lesson plans during the Bett ed-tech event in the UK.

AI-Powered Features

Google is enhancing its platform by enabling teachers to embed questions within YouTube videos as part of their Classroom assignments. Soon, AI will provide suggestions for these questions at various timestamps, building on a feature first announced in June 2023, which required teachers to apply for access.

Moreover, the Practice Sets feature, which utilizes AI to generate answers and general hints, is now available in over 50 languages. Educators can also transform Google Forms into practice sets. To streamline this process, Google is introducing a new Resources tab to help manage practice sets and interactive questions posed during videos.

Class Management Improvements

Later this year, teachers will gain the ability to form distinct groups within Google Classroom, allowing for tailored assignments for each group. Additionally, educators can leverage the speaker spotlight feature in Google Slides to deliver lessons with narration alongside their slide presentations.

Furthermore, a new eSignature facility within Google Workspace will enable educators to easily collect signatures for approvals or contracts. Google is also enhancing Classroom analytics to provide insights into assignment completion and grading trends.

Enhanced Accessibility

Google is improving accessibility by allowing screen readers on ChromeOS to extract text from PDFs. Additionally, users can highlight text in the Chrome browser and have it read aloud.

In Google Meet, new features will include closed captions in 30 languages and the ability to pin multiple hosts, enhancing the virtual classroom experience.

New Chromebook Launches

At the Bett event, Google is showcasing 15 new Chromebook models set to launch this year. An upcoming update will enable students to see their upcoming assignments directly on their home screen, making it easier to stay organized and on track.
