Google's NotebookLM now allows users to customize its podcast-like Audio Overviews. Prior to generating a discussion with this note-taking app, you can instruct your AI hosts on the specific topic to focus on or tailor conversations for various audiences.

Launched last month, NotebookLM features two AI hosts that engage in a lively discussion based on your research. Google emphasizes that these Audio Overviews do not provide a comprehensive or objective overview, but rather reflect the sources you've uploaded and the instructions you provide.

To customize your experience, open a notebook in NotebookLM, select "Notebook guide," and navigate to the "Deep dive conversation" option. Click "Customize" and enter your desired instructions. The AI hosts will generate a conversation that aligns with your directions.

Additionally, Google has removed the “experimental” label from NotebookLM and introduced background listening for Audio Overviews. This feature allows you to listen to discussions while working on other tasks within the app. Moreover, NotebookLM can now delve deeper into YouTube videos with transcriptions, enhancing your research experience.
