Honor Teases Groundbreaking Magic 6 Smartphone Featuring Eye-Tracking Technology and Integrated LLM

Chinese gadget manufacturer Honor has teased its upcoming flagship smartphone, the Magic 6, at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit. While many details remain under wraps, it was revealed that this innovative device will feature built-in eye-tracking and an on-board artificial intelligence powered by a large language model (LLM).

One of the standout features is Magic Capsule, which offers "eye-tracking-based multimodal interaction." This technology allows the smartphone to perform actions based on where the user is looking, enabling app access or content engagement simply by staring at the desired area. This capability could transform smartphone usage for individuals with disabilities, providing near-total access through subtle eye movements. However, the concept of constant tracking may raise privacy concerns for some users.

While specific specifications for the Magic 6 are still pending, the inclusion of an on-board LLM powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile chipset is noteworthy. Unlike traditional AI chatbots that rely on cloud-based services, this on-board LLM processes data directly on the device, enhancing the speed and reliability of interactions. As a result, the Magic 6 could function as an exceptionally capable personal assistant, with access to all device content, including photos, contacts, and videos. Importantly, user privacy is prioritized, as data remains on the device rather than being sent to the cloud.

Honor has showcased several exciting features that leverage this technology. The smart assistant, dubbed YOYO, can generate short videos using footage stored on the phone based on simple chat prompts. Users can also customize templates, themes, and music with ease. Additionally, the assistant can curate images and videos that meet specific search criteria, with more functionalities expected to be unveiled soon.

Although Honor has not yet disclosed a release date or pricing for the Magic 6, Qualcomm announced that smartphones featuring its new chipset will begin shipping shortly, suggesting that the Magic 6 could be among the first to hit the market. In the meantime, Honor has garnered attention in the folding phone arena, solidifying its reputation as a significant player in the tech industry.
