Impact of AI Technology on the Workforce: 83% of Entry-Level Professionals Fear Job Displacement

A survey conducted by the online education platform Great Learning reveals that 83% of entry-level professionals believe technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), is "disrupting" their work. AI and machine learning (ML) have emerged as the most sought-after skills for career advancement heading into the fiscal year 2025.

Hari Krishnan Nair, co-founder of Great Learning, highlights concerns surrounding job loss and insecurity. He states, "Many respondents have observed AI replacing jobs—not necessarily their own—but they worry that without enhancing their AI skills, they may become redundant within their organizations."

Nair also notes that IT services, consulting firms, and global capability centers (GCCs) are poised to reap significant benefits from adopting generative AI. Additionally, as productivity and efficiency improve through AI, clients may begin to require fewer full-time employees (FTEs) for each project. Looking ahead, Nair emphasizes that companies, which have historically focused on training technology teams in generative AI, aim to extend these training efforts to functions such as operations, customer service, human resources, finance, and marketing by fiscal year 2025.
