Generative AI news is constantly evolving, and today, it’s all about having fun. Instagram has introduced a new generative AI tool called Backdrop, designed to enhance the background of your Stories. Ahmad Al-Dahle, Meta's generative AI lead, shared details about this exciting feature along with a video tutorial.

Once you upload or capture content for your Story, the Backdrop tool appears among the icons at the top of your screen, alongside options like text and music. Represented by an icon of a person with a rectangular frame, using Backdrop is simple: just click on the icon. This action transforms your image's background into a checkered pattern, similar to editing software like Photoshop, and prompts you to "describe the backdrop you want."

You can unleash your creativity by adding prompts such as "surrounded by puppies" or "chased by dinosaurs," allowing the AI to generate whimsical backgrounds. However, bear in mind that your Story will be tagged with “AI·Backdrop by Instagram,” along with a sticker suggesting others try it and displaying your chosen description.

Currently, the Backdrop tool is exclusively available for users in the United States, offering a new way to engage and express yourself on Instagram Stories.
