Every day in 2024 brings a flurry of AI-related news, but Jamix, a San Francisco-based AI startup founded by former Instagram and Airbnb engineers, aims to stand out by tackling a specific, widespread issue: enabling companies to harness generative AI assistants while ensuring data privacy and security.
Jamix presents a secure, model-agnostic AI assistant designed to boost workplace productivity.
Recently emerging from stealth mode, Jamix secured $3 million in pre-seed funding led by Audacious Ventures, with contributions from notable angel investors including Keith Peiris (CEO, Tome), Chris Prucha (Co-founder, Notion & Origin), and others.
“Most companies lack the resources to develop sophisticated tools like ours,” said co-founder and CEO Matt Zitzmann during an exclusive interview. “We aim to fill this market gap by providing companies with a customized, internal version of ChatGPT that safeguards their data.”
Zitzmann and co-founder Conglei Shi, who serves as Chief Technology Officer, bring extensive experience from top tech companies, including Google, Instagram, IBM, and Airbnb.
Enhancing Workplace Productivity While Maintaining Security
Jamix’s philosophy is straightforward: “To unlock AI's full potential, it must connect to your data, apps, and APIs,” Zitzmann emphasized.
While companies attempt to use AI tools cautiously to protect sensitive data, this often limits AI's capability to drive meaningful business growth. Zitzmann likened this to hiring an intern but withholding access to critical company information, making their role ineffective.
Jamix's AI assistant integrates with commonly used workplace applications like Google Workspace and Slack, delivering information to users on demand. The platform performs three primary functions for enterprises:
1. Comprehensive Search Across Apps: The Jamix search bar simplifies information retrieval by offering results from all connected applications—be it email, Slack, or Google Docs—enabling users to access what they need quickly. "For 20 years, enterprise search has promised a Google-like experience for corporate data," Zitzmann noted.
2. Engage with Apps and Data: Beyond the typical generative AI use case of interacting with a single PDF, Jamix allows users to query a range of documents available within the organization. For example, users can ask, “How many candidates do we have in the engineering pipeline?” and receive immediate answers.
3. Action Initiation: In a bold move, Jamix enables its AI assistant to perform actions on behalf of users within workplace apps, such as filing bug reports or evaluating resumes based on job criteria. This feature enhances efficiency by automating routine tasks.
Committed to User Privacy and Security
Jamix prioritizes user privacy by encrypting all customer data and establishing agreements with AI model providers, including OpenAI, to prohibit data training on Jamix user information.
“Our agreements ensure that customer data remains private,” Zitzmann confirmed.
For clients seeking additional privacy, Jamix also collaborates with open-source AI models, enabling enterprises to deploy the AI assistant on private clouds or on-premises.
By adopting a model-agnostic approach, Jamix stays agile in the rapidly evolving AI landscape, allowing businesses to leverage diverse AI models without being locked into a single provider.
Notable Backers
The $3 million pre-seed funding, led by Audacious Ventures and supported by prominent angel investors, reflects robust industry backing for Jamix’s innovative approach to workplace AI.
Zitzmann highlighted the significance of launching a product that seamlessly integrates into corporate operations while maintaining data privacy and providing flexibility in AI model deployment.
Nakul Mandan, Founder and Partner at Audacious Ventures, praised Jamix’s vision of equipping knowledge workers with tailored AI assistants that prioritize data security and user permissions.
“We envision a future where every knowledge worker has access to AI assistants built with enterprise needs at the forefront,” Mandan stated. “Jamix’s solution facilitates efficient knowledge interaction and task automation while upholding data security standards.”
With its recent funding and product launch, Jamix is poised to reshape the AI assistant landscape, offering businesses a pathway to improved productivity without compromising on stringent data security requirements. The platform's expansive integration with workplace tools and its adaptable approach underscore Jamix’s dedication to delivering secure and flexible AI solutions for enterprises.
