Kaiber, the innovative generative AI creative studio known for producing music videos for popular artists like Kid Cudi and Linkin Park, has unveiled its new mobile app aimed at empowering creators, musicians, and artists. This app provides an extensive array of AI tools, including text-to-video, image-to-video, and video-to-video capabilities.
Founded in 2022, Kaiber integrates various open-source projects such as AnimatedDiff, Automatic1111, ControlNet, and Deforum. It also features a proprietary technology layer that seamlessly blends these resources into a cohesive artistic platform.
Similar to other AI video generators like Runway, Meta’s Make-A-Video, and Google’s Imagen Video, Kaiber enables users to upload images or videos or type in ideas to create animated content. Users can choose between two animation styles: “Flipbook,” which offers a frame-by-frame effect, and “Motion,” a smoother transition style. Users also have the option to specify how they want their videos to appear or select from Kaiber’s curated subjects and styles.
Customization is a key feature of Kaiber, allowing creators to adjust camera movements such as zooming in or out, rotating, or panning in various directions. The app also supports different aspect ratios tailored for multiple platforms, including 16:9 for YouTube, 9:16 for TikTok, and 1:1, 3:4, or 4:3 for Instagram. While the maximum video length is currently eight minutes, future updates are expected to support longer videos. Videos are generated within approximately 30 minutes.
Moreover, users can incorporate their own music, positioning the app as a cost-effective alternative for independent artists seeking to avoid the hefty fees charged by traditional animation studios. An Audio Reactivity feature enriches the experience, making the output responsive to any audio users upload.
“Our mobile app encapsulates Kaiber’s essential capabilities—text-to-video, image-to-video, and video-to-video—in a compact and user-friendly design,” stated co-founder and CEO Victor Wang.
In addition to launching the app, Kaiber has collaborated with three independent artists to introduce a unique “Create with” feature exclusive to mobile users. This feature enables content creation using specific music and generative AI styles tailored to each artist. One of the collaborators is Oksami, co-founder and CTO Eric Gao, who boasts over 53,000 Spotify listeners and nearly 58,000 YouTube subscribers. Users can access four of his hit tracks, including “Midnight Diner,” which has surpassed 1 million streams on Spotify. The other featured artists are Yung Bae and August Kamp.
Regarding ownership rights, creators who subscribe own the videos they produce, while free account holders receive a Commons Noncommercial 4.0 Attribution International License, allowing them to use the content but not sell it. Videos created with free accounts will display a Kaiber logo watermark.
Kaiber also offers an affiliate program, allowing creators to earn a 10% commission on subscription referrals, which continues as long as the referred customer maintains their subscription.
The Kaiber app is available for both iOS and Android devices, featuring three subscription tiers: Explorer ($5/month for 300 credits), Pro ($15/month for 1,000 credits), and Artist ($30/month for 2,500 credits). One credit is equivalent to one second of video, with varying credit costs based on the feature. A seven-day free trial offering 100 credits is also available.
“Our core philosophy is that the creative process can be challenging,” explained co-founder and head of creative Jacky Lu. “Yet, creativity shares common patterns across all mediums—music, video, images, and other art forms. To create exceptional art, we need intuitive, straightforward tools and the capability to draw inspiration from others. With generative AI, we can now collaborate in making art with each other and with machines.”
Kaiber successfully launched its product out of beta this past May, gaining over 2 million users and now boasting more than 5 million sign-ups. The platform gained recognition through AI-powered lyric videos featuring Kid Cudi and an AI music video for Linkin Park, in addition to a viral TikTok trend dubbed “Astral Jump.” Kaiber’s studio technology—Kaiber Studios—has supported over 2 million artists with generative audio and video, partnering with notable names like Grimes and Wu-Tang Clan.
Completely bootstrapped, Kaiber reported seven figures in gross revenue shortly after its launch.
Wang and Gao, childhood friends, began their entrepreneurial journey with their first venture, Secret Garden, in February 2022, inspired by the web3 NFT boom. Their initial sale grossed $1.2 million with a profit of approximately $300,000, providing essential seed money for the venture. However, the FTX crash depleted Secret Garden’s funds, forcing the pair to pivot.
“The FTX.us crash tested our resilience, but it only strengthened our resolve, leading to the creation of Kaiber from the challenges we faced with Secret Garden,” Wang recounted. “This journey embodies our story of overcoming obstacles, driven by passion and a firm belief in the transformative capabilities of AI in music and visual arts.”
