Kristen Bell Urges Instagram to 'Eliminate AI' Before Becoming Its Official Voice

Meta has secured deals with high-profile actors, including Kristen Bell, to provide voices for its Meta AI chatbot. Interestingly, Bell had previously voiced her opposition to Meta's use of her data. In June, she reposted a viral message stating that she would not consent to Meta using her content and likeness to train large language models, calling for Instagram to eliminate its AI program.

This sentiment reflects widespread discomfort following Meta’s June update to its terms of service, which permits the company to use users' posts, images, and online tracking data for training its Llama 3 AI model. While users can opt out through specific settings, they cannot do so by reposting on Instagram.

The role of AI in the creative industries has ignited significant debate. The entertainment union SAG-AFTRA is advocating for its members to ensure they aren't replaced by AI without consent and is collaborating with California to push for legislation that restricts the use of AI actor clones. Importantly, many artists and actors are not fundamentally opposed to AI; they simply seek fair compensation for their contributions. According to The Wall Street Journal, actors involved in Meta’s AI project were compensated millions for their participation.
