LG Unveils Two-Legged AI Robot to Monitor Your Pets While You're Away

LG is set to introduce a compact bipedal robot that can move freely around your home. Unveiling at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, this AI-powered robot boasts a host of features, including alerts for forgotten appliances like the AC and pet monitoring while you’re at work.

Similar to stationary smart home assistants like Alexa or Apple HomePod, LG's robot can provide weather updates and medication reminders. Powered by Qualcomm’s Robotics RB5 Platform, it combines advanced hardware and software to execute its AI tasks. Among its capabilities are face and voice recognition, emotional analysis, and interactive conversation. The robot can greet you at the door, gauge your mood, and play music to either elevate your spirits or help you unwind. Its articulated leg joints allow it to change postures, adding a charming touch to its personality.

Equipped with a camera, speaker, and various sensors, the robot can navigate spaces, communicate, and measure indoor air quality and temperature. However, it remains unclear whether it can integrate with existing smart home systems to control devices like thermostats. LG has not provided further details on this integration or the robot’s pricing.

Thanks to its mobility, the robot can monitor your pets and notify you of any unusual activity detected at home. Additionally, it can serve as a mobile security guard, alerting you to movement while you’re away. Most likely, it will remind you about things like leaving the kitchen lights on.
