Microsoft Gives Up Control of the Copilot Key: What This Means for Users and Developers

Microsoft has announced the rollout of the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.4225 (KB5043186) update. Although this update is minor, it finally grants users control over the dedicated Copilot key, which is becoming more common on various laptops.

In a recent blog post, Microsoft elaborated on enhancing user customization by allowing the configuration of the Copilot key. This key can open applications that are MSIX packaged and signed, ensuring compliance with security and privacy standards to keep your PC secure. Once this feature is more widely available, you can find it under Settings Personalization Text Input.

While there's no specific timeline for when this feature will appear in the stable release, it is anticipated soon. Microsoft reminded users that these updates are part of Windows 11 version 23H2. If you’re still on version 22H2, make sure to update by October 8 to access the latest features.

On the unofficial side of Windows 11, a potential “Hand Off” feature is in the works, streamlining the transition between devices. User @techsarusrex on X (formerly Twitter) highlighted this feature, which simplifies switching between devices and continuing work from your phone. Currently, it is hidden behind a system flag that can be activated using ViVeTool.

If you pause a document on your phone and then switch to your computer, a notification will prompt you to continue where you left off. Similar to Apple's Handoff feature that enables iPhone or iPad users to pick up tasks on their Mac, Windows is introducing a comparable capability, enhancing multi-device productivity.
