OpenAI Introduces ChatGPT Discount Program Exclusively for Nonprofits

OpenAI has launched an initiative aimed at enhancing accessibility for nonprofit organizations by offering discounted access to premium versions of ChatGPT. Through the OpenAI for Nonprofits program, these organizations can secure a ChatGPT Team license for just $20 per user per month, which reflects a $10 savings off the regular price. Additionally, larger nonprofits will benefit from a significant 50% discount on the Enterprise version, complete with priority access to updated models, including GPT-4o, and a customizable collaborative workspace.

OpenAI emphasizes the potential of ChatGPT to transform the way nonprofits operate, stating, “Whether it’s drafting grant proposals, refining data analysis, or tailoring communication strategies for diverse audiences, ChatGPT can serve as a powerful force multiplier for nonprofit organizations.” To qualify for these discounts, organizations must meet eligibility criteria verified by the nonprofit validation platform, Percent. However, please note that the program is not available for nonprofits affiliated with academic institutions, religious groups, or governmental bodies.

Importantly, OpenAI will not provide a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) for nonprofits accessing the service. A BAA is a legal arrangement that protects organizations bound by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) during collaborations.

Early beneficiaries of this initiative include Serenas, a Brazilian nonprofit dedicated to combatting violence against women. The organization has leveraged ChatGPT to draft grant proposals and adapt content in both English and Portuguese. Serenas’ founder, Amanda Sadalla, remarked, “With the human resources challenges we face in the nonprofit sector, ChatGPT has made connecting with international donors significantly simpler.”

Another organization taking advantage of this service is THINK South Africa, which uses ChatGPT to assist health officials in analyzing data and deriving actionable insights. The nonprofit is in the process of creating a toolkit designed to enhance public health programs across South Africa.

Team4Tech, an organization focused on expanding digital education to underserved communities, has also utilized ChatGPT to expedite its content evaluation processes. “ChatGPT enables us to curate resources more accurately, which helps us ensure our nonprofits have access to the best resources available,” shared Jody Britten, the head of research and innovation at Team4Tech.

The discounts under this initiative specifically apply to ChatGPT licenses, and there are currently no plans to extend similar offers for access to API services. OpenAI has expressed its commitment to developing additional resources and tools tailored for the unique needs of nonprofit organizations, aiming to empower them further in their missions and projects.
