OpenAI Launches Exclusive Invitation-Only Community Forum for Members

OpenAI has made headlines this week with the launch of the OpenAI Forum, an invitation-only community designed to connect domain experts and students for discussions and collaboration on AI.

Membership appears to be free and will include both online and in-person events. Members are asked to commit to one hour of participation per quarter, and while anyone can apply, OpenAI will screen applicants for selection.

Join the Conversation

Those interested in becoming members can apply via the OpenAI Forum website by providing basic information, including name, email, company affiliation, and a link to their LinkedIn profile. However, not all applicants will be accepted. OpenAI has established criteria for membership:

- A demonstrated interest in the intersection of the applicant's area of expertise and AI.

- A commitment to participate for one hour each fiscal quarter.

- Proven expertise in a professional field or academic discipline.

Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis to ensure the forum remains engaging, intimate, and reflective of diverse perspectives.

Member Contributions

Activities available to members will include model evaluations, the creation of evaluation sets, and support for the Preparedness team’s initiatives aimed at ensuring the safety of frontier models. By participating, members will play a pivotal role in shaping AI technology development and deployment.

Why Join the OpenAI Forum?

The forum offers members opportunities for roundtables and community events featuring thought leaders from AI, STEM, and the arts, such as recent guest Emily St. John Mandel, author of Station Eleven. Essentially, the forum acts as a deepening connection to OpenAI’s extensive network, allowing members to amplify their voices in the quest for advancing artificial general intelligence (AGI).

As noted in the FAQ, “Creating AGI that benefits all of humanity will require broad participation from stakeholders with different backgrounds.” Join the OpenAI Forum to contribute to this vital mission.
