Pinterest, the popular image inspiration and shopping platform, has just launched new generative AI features for its advertisers, joining the ranks of Google, Amazon, and others. During the recent Pinterest Presents advertiser event, the company introduced enhancements to its Pinterest Performance+ suite, which now integrates cutting-edge automation and AI tools. One standout feature allows advertisers to transform plain, white, or flat backgrounds into vibrant lifestyle imagery, enhancing the visual appeal of their Pinterest Product Pins.
This innovative capability aims to help advertisers boost engagement by making their ads more visually attractive and click-worthy. The use of generative AI to enhance product imagery isn't exclusive to Pinterest; it’s rapidly becoming a standard offering across various advertising platforms due to its efficiency. For instance, nearly a year ago, Amazon rolled out similar technology that enabled advertisers to customize product backgrounds simply by describing their desired aesthetic. Google soon followed suit, providing tools that allow for easy alterations to background colors and scenes.
With Pinterest now offering these capabilities, advertisers can take advantage of the platform’s unique approach to showcasing products. Walgreens, an early adopter of Pinterest’s generative AI, tested the new features across 50 different products. By utilizing AI-generated backgrounds that resonated more with Pinterest’s aesthetic, Walgreens experienced a remarkable 55% increase in clickthrough rates and a 13% reduction in cost-per-click compared to traditional white backgrounds.
Furthermore, Pinterest has integrated AI and automation features designed to streamline campaign creation, requiring 50% less input from advertisers. This flexibility allows advertisers to customize their Performance+ products to meet specific needs. Initial tests revealed significant results, including a 64% reduction in cost per action and a 30% increase in conversion rates, resulting in a remarkable 1.8x return on ad spend.
In addition to these updates, Pinterest is introducing Promotions—new discount tools for its users. These offerings will be accessible on request by advertisers in countries such as the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Mexico, Brazil, and Japan. The new Personalized Promotions and Deals ad modules are designed to highlight current sales and discounts, enhancing user engagement.
Additionally, Pinterest has optimized its Performance+ bidding system to focus on maximizing campaign value rather than solely targeting clicks or conversion volume. Now, all global advertisers can access Performance+ campaigns tailored for objectives such as Consideration, Conversions, or Catalog Sales.
With these advancements, Pinterest aims to empower advertisers to create compelling, efficient campaigns that resonate with users while driving results.
