Car manufacturers can now develop advanced AI voice assistants for their vehicles through a new collaboration between Qualcomm and Google. Announced today, this partnership focuses on a cutting-edge AI development system built on Android Automotive OS (AAOS), Google’s infotainment platform tailored for vehicles.
Qualcomm is integrating its Snapdragon Digital Chassis with Google Cloud and AAOS to create innovative, AI-powered digital cockpits. The company also introduced two new chips: the Snapdragon Cockpit Elite for dashboards and the Snapdragon Ride Elite for self-driving capabilities. This new interface enables drivers and passengers to engage with personalized voice assistants, dynamic maps, and real-time driving updates.
Automakers can leverage this system to create distinctive, marketable AI voice assistants that operate independently of smartphones. Other manufacturers are also exploring AI integration; for example, Volkswagen announced plans at CES 2024 to incorporate ChatGPT into the voice assistants of various new models. Initially slow to take off, AAOS is now the foundation for vehicles from brands like Chevrolet, Honda, Volvo, and Rivian.
