AI-Powered Higher Education Search and Support for College Applicants in China
As of June 13, the Quark App has launched a comprehensive upgrade, improving its AI search capabilities for college entrance examination (Gaokao) resources, intelligent application tools, and exclusive content services. Recent trends show that artificial intelligence (AI) continues to be the most sought-after field of study, with computer science leading the way.
This year, Gaokao applicants hit a record 13.42 million, as seven provinces introduced new Gaokao systems and several majors revised their admission criteria. In response to this increased competition, Quark offers personalized and comprehensive intelligent information services to help families navigate the application process effectively.
The AI search feature enables students to ask questions related to their college applications. It compiles insights from credible sources, including official university websites and expert videos, delivering precise answers on admission policies, academic programs, living conditions, and job prospects tailored to individual student needs.
Quark's intelligent application tool provides scientifically-based recommendations based on applicant profiles, including province, exam scores, and ranking. This feature empowers students to make informed decisions and prioritize their preferences, whether in university selection or major choice. The app enhances usability across devices, allowing seamless viewing, editing, and sharing of application information from smartphones, tablets, or computers.
To further support students and parents, Quark has invited leading experts to host over 20 free live-streamed sessions, equipping attendees with crucial information on the application process. These sessions include tailored advice that reflects the unique characteristics of different provinces.
Professor Yue Changjun from Peking University's Faculty of Education advises students to choose majors that align with their skills and interests while taking market demand into account. By selecting majors that encompass their strengths and industry needs, students are more likely to achieve fulfillment and success in their careers.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the new Gaokao system, underscoring the growing importance of AI-related majors alongside traditional subjects. Data reveals that computer science remains the most sought-after field, followed by electrical engineering, artificial intelligence, dental medicine, and software engineering. The increasing interest in AI fields reflects students’ recognition of the need to integrate AI skills into their education.
Institutions from southern China, such as Sichuan University, Southwest University, Hainan University, Xiamen University, and Jilin University, are particularly popular among applicants. These universities offer strong programs, job placement opportunities, and favorable living conditions, attracting young students.
Vocational education is also gaining traction, with institutions like Hebei University of Science and Technology and Guangzhou Civil Aviation Vocational and Technical College becoming increasingly popular among applicants.
Quark is dedicated to narrowing the urban-rural information divide through initiatives like the "Warm Sun Project 3.0." This project provides practical resources, such as service handbooks and targeted live-stream events, to support rural students in the application process. Previous initiatives have seen Quark collaborate with major media outlets to host nearly 50 free information sessions designed to empower students.
Former principal Li Yongpei emphasizes that Gaokao information services can significantly assist students by providing essential information, tailored answers through search, and enabling informed choices based on intelligent recommendations.
Quark's product manager, Xia Yatong, stresses the company's mission to deliver inclusive and free Gaokao information services. With continuous updates over six years, Quark aims to bridge information gaps, assisting an ever-growing number of students and parents in the application process through accurate data and AI-driven tools.
