Hailo, a leading designer of edge artificial intelligence (AI) processors, has announced that the new Raspberry Pi 5 will integrate its AI accelerators.
Based in Tel Aviv, Israel, Hailo will include its processors in the Raspberry Pi AI Kit, specifically designed as an add-on for the Raspberry Pi 5 homebrew computer. This collaboration aims to empower both professional engineers and hobbyist creators to enhance projects in home automation, security, robotics, and other fields with advanced AI capabilities.
“We are excited to support Raspberry Pi and its dynamic community of engineers and makers,” stated Hailo CEO Orr Danon. “Partnering with the world’s foremost single-board computer provider will usher in a new era of computing, fueled by our high-performance AI processing.”
The Raspberry Pi AI Kit, tailored for the Raspberry Pi 5, features the newly launched Raspberry Pi M.2 HAT+ and the Hailo-8L M.2 AI acceleration module, offering up to 13 TOPS (tera-operations per second) of inferencing performance. This solution seamlessly integrates with Raspberry Pi’s camera software stack and supports a variety of out-of-the-box AI applications via Hailo’s extensive software suite and model zoo.
“Our collaboration with Hailo allows Raspberry Pi’s industrial clients to introduce AI into high-performance, cost-effective, and power-efficient solutions. For enthusiasts, the AI Kit offers an approachable way to elevate creative projects,” said Eben Upton, CEO of Raspberry Pi. He highlighted Hailo’s impressive combination of high processing power and low energy consumption, making it an attractive solution for both professionals and hobbyists.
The Hailo-8L AI accelerator significantly outperforms other edge processors with its 13 TOPS performance. As both commercial and industrial-grade, Hailo processors are already in use by over 300 clients globally, making scalability straightforward from prototype to mass production.
This partnership signifies a major milestone for Hailo, showcasing the maturity of its AI accelerators and its capacity to engage a broader audience. To support the expanding Hailo developer community, Hailo is launching an online platform featuring tutorials, FAQs, and resources designed to encourage innovation among creators and developers.
Registered members will have the opportunity to interact with Hailo experts and exchange code, experiences, and knowledge within the community.
“Our new online community will foster collaboration among AI enthusiasts, enabling them to share insights and explore innovative solutions,” Danon remarked. “We anticipate that the introduction of Raspberry Pi's AI-enabled board will pave the way for significant advancements, and we look forward to supporting creators as they leverage Hailo’s capabilities.”
The Raspberry Pi AI Kit will be showcased at the Raspberry Pi booth 3A-138 during Embedded World China from June 12-14 and at Maker Faire Hannover on August 17-18.
