Samsung Unveils Samsung Food: A New Meal Planning and Recipe Discovery Platform for Home Cooks

Samsung has introduced a comprehensive meal planning and suggestion platform known as Samsung Food, now available in over 104 countries. This platform is built upon Whisk, which was acquired by Samsung Next in 2019.

With more than 160,000 recipes available in eight languages—including English, Spanish, Korean, German, French, and Italian—Samsung Food allows users to search for recipes, create shopping lists, develop meal plans, and follow recipe creators. The company emphasized that the platform leverages Whisk's extensive recipe database.

Users can easily save recipes and simultaneously add required ingredients to their shopping lists. In select regions, Samsung Food integrates with e-commerce platforms, making the shopping experience seamless.

Interestingly, the new Samsung Food website bears a striking resemblance to the Whisk site, and the app download links still redirect to Whisk on the Play Store and App Store. This indicates a transition that hasn't gone as smoothly as anticipated.

In line with its rebranding efforts, Samsung has also made the app accessible on its Bespoke line of refrigerators. This integration allows users to access meal-planning tools directly from their internet-enabled refrigerator screens, a fitting extension of Samsung's brand.

The company is focusing on further integrating its Bespoke appliances, such as microwaves and ovens, to enhance the cooking experience based on specific recipes. Samsung Food aims to assist users in setting timers, pre-heating ovens, and adjusting cooking settings through appliances connected via the SmartThings home system.

Reflecting the advancements of 2023, Samsung has rolled out personalization features powered by "Food AI." For instance, users can modify recipes to be vegan or vegetarian, adjust ingredients for optimal nutrition, or request fusion dishes that blend culinary traditions, like a Korean-inspired Italian meal.

Samsung has ambitious plans for the Samsung Food platform, including the expected integration with Samsung Health by the end of the year, which will facilitate enhanced nutrition tracking and diet management. Looking ahead to 2024, Samsung aims to introduce "Vision AI" to Samsung Food, enabling users to identify food items with their phone cameras and obtain nutritional information instantly.
