Bringing AI to the Masses: The Second Member Conference of the Shenzhen Artificial Intelligence Industry Association
On September 22, the Shenzhen Artificial Intelligence Industry Association held its "Second Member Conference First Session" in Nanshan District. Fan Congming, the Executive Vice President, announced the launch of the "AI Portal Website," featuring 146 AI mini-programs like Wenxin Yiyan and Tongyi Qianwen. This initiative encourages users and businesses to engage with Chinese-developed AI software.
From August 30 to September 28, the association is conducting its first batch of AI enterprise evaluations for 2023, inviting companies to apply. Established in 2019, the Shenzhen Artificial Intelligence Industry Association has rapidly grown to over 650 member enterprises, including 17 publicly listed companies and numerous specialized businesses.
Statistics reveal that the core AI industry in Shenzhen generated 30.8 billion yuan in 2022, contributing to a total production value of 248.8 billion yuan across associated industries.
At the conference, Vice President Lv Gang awarded certificates for the AI enterprise evaluations and discussed key evaluation criteria. He highlighted significant challenges facing the AI industry, such as insufficient foundational technologies, limited profitable applications, and the need for standardized technology and product specifications. The development of AI standards is crucial for fostering sustainable industry growth.
The evaluation standards, created after two years of workshops with various enterprises and research institutions, detail requirements across company qualifications, innovative capabilities, revenue, product quality, service reliability, business integrity, and operational environment. These standards were officially implemented on August 8.
A key highlight of the conference was the introduction of the "AI Portal Website," designed to enhance industry services and user experiences. The homepage underscores a commitment to supporting major enterprises, empowering startups, and improving user interaction. The platform covers various sectors, including AI model production, smart robotics, intelligent sensors, and AI medical technologies.
Fan Congming stated, “This website is a first for China, integrating leading models from Alibaba and Baidu, along with offerings from startups. Our goal is to increase visibility for Chinese AI software, democratizing access and encouraging widespread adoption.”
Setting the Path for AI Industrialization
During the conference, board elections were held, and newly elected President Xia Zuoquan shared three aspirations for the association’s secretariat:
1. Engage with frontline enterprises to cultivate a market-driven, legally compliant, and internationally competitive business environment.
2. Focus on key initiatives to invigorate AI entrepreneurs and establish the National Federation of Industry and Commerce's AI Committee and the China AI Chamber of Commerce.
3. Collaborate with government entities to effectively promote and implement the "AI Enterprise Evaluation Criteria," while leading the development of industry standards at local and national levels.
Looking ahead, Xia Zuoquan affirmed the association’s commitment to embracing a mission focused on serving the AI industry thorough its foundation in Shenzhen, its emphasis on the Greater Bay Area, and its dedication to global standards. The goal is to accelerate both AI industrialization and the integration of AI across various sectors.
