Superfy: The Anti-ChatGPT App Revolutionizing Live Chats by Using AI to Connect Users and Provide Instant Answers

AI chatbots can struggle to provide reliable answers for personal issues, such as resolving relationship dilemmas, choosing the perfect outfit, offering tailored advice, or recommending movies and shows. For these nuanced inquiries, many users still prefer human interaction, often turning to platforms like Reddit or Quora for insights from real people. Enter Superfy, a mobile app designed to leverage AI to enhance human connection in a dynamic live chat environment, facilitating better answers to personal questions.

Launched in 2021 by Tel Aviv-based founders Michal Tamir and Gil Schoenberg, Superfy was envisioned as a more dynamic alternative to traditional Q&A platforms—a kind of "Quora on steroids." With backgrounds in data analytics from Treato, they set out to create a platform that uses AI technology to connect users in real time with knowledgeable individuals who can provide the information they seek. Instead of resorting to search engines or AI chat interfaces like ChatGPT, Superfy enables direct conversations with real people who can offer pertinent insights and advice.

The app employs Matchpoint AI, a proprietary technology built atop open-source large language models (LLMs) that facilitates user connections. Its advanced machine learning algorithms consider various factors, such as who is currently online, their usual activity patterns, and their specific areas of expertise. For instance, if a user inquires, “Should I buy an Ibanez or a Gibson guitar?” the system aims to connect them with someone knowledgeable about musical instruments. For personal recommendations, the AI factors in the relevance of the responses to the user asking the question.

Superfy’s innovative system utilizes a dynamically generated database that discerns trends from user interactions. Unlike traditional Natural Language Processing (NLP), which often relies on static dictionaries, Superfy's technology continuously learns from user engagement, interests, and behavior patterns to improve response matching. The Matchpoint AI incorporates shared interests and interpersonal dynamics, ensuring users connect meaningfully based on both topic relevance and personal connection.

According to the startup, around 10% of user inquiries are niche questions that may take longer to address through human responses; in such cases, the Superfy bot provides prompt automated answers while users await live feedback. The platform boasts a rapid median response time of about 20 seconds for human interactions.

Currently available exclusively on iOS, Superfy has attracted a community of 550,000 registered users, with 85,000 active monthly participants, primarily from the Gen Z demographic in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. The founders noted, "Popular platforms like TikTok and Instagram focus primarily on content consumption and often fail to facilitate the genuine connections that once defined the internet." They believe Superfy offers a unique space where users can swiftly connect with others to engage in vital conversations.

While targeting Gen Z, the founders foresee future expansions to reach a broader audience. Since its launch, Superfy has transformed from a mere tool for quick answers into a platform for meaningful discussions. In contrast to platforms like Quora and Reddit, where only a small fraction of users contribute, Superfy boasts an impressive engagement rate: about 85% of users actively participate by asking or answering questions. This high level of engagement can be attributed to the app's chat-oriented interface that promotes personal connections, enhanced AI matching, and precise user interactions.

This environment cultivates more subjective inputs, allowing users to share personal advice, recommendations, and support rather than strictly “correct” answers typical of AI responses. As a result, users report spending an average of 31 minutes per day on the app, participating in numerous chats and sessions—approximately 160 seconds per session across an average of 16 interactions. The platform facilitates over 10.5 million messages exchanged monthly.

Looking ahead, the Superfy team is committed to maintaining operations despite challenges in their region. "Although circumstances are difficult, we aim to continue our routine and support our users globally as best as we can," they explained.

Superfy has secured $5 million in funding, plus an additional $1.5 million in grants from the Israeli Innovation Authority (IIA). With three rounds of investment, the most recent occurring in September 2022, they are currently pursuing a post-seed fundraising initiative. Backers include family, close friends, and private angel investors like Alon Matas, founder of BetterHelp, along with the creators of Ilyon, a casual gaming firm recently acquired by Miniclip.

The app is currently available for free on iOS, offering a seamless experience without in-app purchases.
