Tinder is introducing an AI-powered feature designed to help users choose better photos for their dating profiles. The new Photo Selector tool aims to eliminate the guesswork by curating a diverse selection of images optimized for making connections.
To use Photo Selector, users must take a selfie within the app and grant access to their device's camera roll. The AI feature employs facial recognition to compile a selection of images for users to review and add to their profiles. Importantly, this curation happens on-device, ensuring that users' camera rolls remain private.
According to Tinder, the goal of Photo Selector is to assist users in making “meaningful connections” while saving time in profile creation. A study of 7,000 individuals aged 18-25 revealed that young singles spend an average of 33 minutes selecting the right profile photo. This new feature could streamline the process, though it may not resolve the broader issues contributing to dating app fatigue.
Photo Selector will be available on iOS and Android devices, with a rollout in the US starting in July, followed by support for international markets “this summer.”
