Top Three Shanghai Universities Release 2024 Admission Policies: Fudan, Shanghai Jiao Tong, and Tongji Focus on Cultivating Top AI Innovators

Yesterday, three prestigious universities in Shanghai—Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Tongji University—unveiled their admissions policies for 2024, reaffirming their dedication to nurturing top-tier AI talent.

Fudan University:

In 2024, Fudan University plans to enroll 3,720 students, a 100-student increase compared to last year, offering admissions across 46 programs—14 more than before. This fall, Fudan will launch at least 100 AI-related courses for the 2024-2025 academic year, incorporating innovative training at the intersection of AI and various disciplines. To support this initiative, Fudan introduces the "Xianghui Academy," featuring the "Xianghui Plan" and "Shannon Plan," both designed to cultivate talent in cutting-edge disciplines. The Xianghui Plan emphasizes science experimental classes, while the Shannon Plan focuses on engineering. Additionally, Fudan has established several innovation institutes, offering specialized courses in fields such as photonics, electronic information, computer science, microelectronics, and big data.

Fudan aims to position itself as a leading force in scientific intelligence through the creation of an innovative ecosystem around "AI for Science," inviting young talents interested in AI to participate in their engineering initiatives.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University:

Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is debuting a leadership training program in artificial intelligence and has introduced special master's and bachelor's programs. The university is enhancing its Distinguished Honors Program and relaxing major restrictions to allow greater flexibility in admissions. In 2024, SJTU will launch undergraduate admissions for a pilot program targeting exceptional talents in AI, alongside a dual-degree program in Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence. This initiative is geared towards grounding students in the foundational theories and algorithms of AI, preparing them to explore the mathematical mechanisms behind next-generation AI.

SJTU's colleges continue to refine their talent development strategies, providing various industry-specific courses in Marine Engineering, Materials Science, Health Science and Technology, International Law, and Clinical Medicine. This interdisciplinary approach prepares students for diverse career paths.

Tongji University:

Tongji University has launched an innovative AI consultation service called ChatTJ, designed to assist candidates and parents throughout the admissions process with 24/7 support. Initially aimed at providing information to prospective students, ChatTJ, also known as "Tongji Xiao You," will eventually expand to address broader university administrative needs. Utilizing advanced AI algorithms and large-scale language models, this service delivers tailored responses based on user inquiries.

Additionally, Tongji University has introduced the "AI Empowerment for Disciplined Innovation Development Action Plan (2024-2027)," which focuses on leveraging AI applications to enhance education, scientific research, engineering technology, and management services.
