In recent tech news, Apple has reached a significant agreement with the stock photo site Shutterstock, acquiring millions of images to enhance its artificial intelligence training. The deal is estimated to be valued between $25 million and $50 million, and was finalized a few months after the release of ChatGPT in late 2022. Other major tech companies, including Meta, Google, and Amazon, have also entered similar collaborations with Shutterstock.
Additionally, reports indicate that Apple is in talks with news publishers to secure rights to their articles, further bolstering its AI model training. The New York Times noted that Meta is considering acquiring publishers like Simon & Schuster, highlighting the increasing importance of content acquisition for AI.
Although Apple has recently been viewed as slightly lagging in AI advancements, the company aims to quickly change this perception. iOS 18 is projected to significantly enhance AI capabilities, improving the overall iPhone user experience. The official launch of iOS 18 is scheduled for June 10 during the WWDC event, with keynote presentations beginning at 10 AM Pacific Time. Apple’s marketing chief, Greg Jozwiak, has confirmed discussions around AI, promising that WWDC will be an incredible event.
