How to Add and Use the OpenAI ChatGPT Widget on Android Devices
The ChatGPT app from OpenAI now features a widget for Android devices, allowing users to easily add it to their home screens for quick access to image, text, voice, or chat queries. Here’s a simple guide on how to add and use the ChatGPT widget.
Adding the ChatGPT Widget to Your Android Home Screen
First, ensure that your ChatGPT app version is 1.2024.052 or higher, as the widget is currently only available in a 4×2 format. Here’s how to add the widget (note that steps may vary slightly depending on your device):
1. Unlock your device and long-press on an empty area of the home screen.
2. Select “Widgets” from the bottom menu.
3. Type “ChatGPT” into the search bar.
4. Long-press the ChatGPT widget and drag it to your desired location on the home screen.
Using the ChatGPT Widget on Android Devices
The ChatGPT widget allows for easy input of queries. To enter a text query, simply tap the “Message” field on the widget and type your prompt.
Users can also perform image queries by using the camera or image icon; however, this feature requires a ChatGPT Plus subscription. For voice input, click the microphone icon, or enter chat mode by tapping the headset icon.
Any tap on the widget will open the ChatGPT app in full-screen mode. Keep in mind that the current widget primarily serves as a shortcut for quick access to the app, with plans for future updates to feature a smaller, more interactive AI chat interface.
With the ChatGPT widget, you can enhance your experience with this convenient AI assistant right from your home screen.
