Latest Developments in Apple and OpenAI Partnership: iOS 18 to Incorporate ChatGPT
Recent news about Apple's collaboration with OpenAI has garnered significant attention. During the Global Developers Conference, Apple's Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, announced that AI tools will integrate OpenAI's ChatGPT, which is expected to launch later this year on iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, utilizing the GPT-4o model.
In his presentation, Federighi emphasized that they are committed to supporting GPT-4o and plan to offer consumers a variety of AI model options in the future. He noted that users may have preferences for specific models, particularly those suitable for creative writing or coding, and Apple aims to accommodate these needs.
Furthermore, in an interview, Federighi mentioned the possibility of integrating other AI models, including Google's Gemini. Although the partnership with Google Gemini has not been officially announced yet, he indicated that diversifying AI model integrations is a strategic direction for Apple.
With the release of iOS 18 following the launch of the iPhone 16 series this fall, Apple has nearly three months to enhance support for Google Gemini and other AI models. Even if this functionality isn't available at the initial rollout, future updates may include this support.
There have been multiple reports suggesting Apple's intention to support various AI models. In March, sources indicated that Apple was in discussions with Baidu, Google, and OpenAI to introduce generative AI features for specific iPhone models. The negotiations with Baidu were primarily focused on the domestic market, while discussions with Google and OpenAI targeted international development.
