OpenAI Commits to Priority Access for Next-Generation Models to the U.S. Government

OpenAI Partners with U.S. Government to Grant Early Access to Next-Gen AI Model

On August 2, OpenAI announced its collaboration with U.S. government agencies to provide early access to its next-generation AI models for security testing purposes.

CEO Sam Altman shared that OpenAI is working closely with the U.S. AI Safety Institute, which specializes in evaluating and addressing risks associated with AI platforms. Discussions are currently underway regarding the early access to the latest generative AI models.

This initiative appears to be a response to growing external criticism, aiming to clarify that while OpenAI advances its powerful generative AI technologies, it remains committed to ensuring AI safety.

In light of increasing scrutiny, OpenAI has opted to lift some restrictive clauses previously seen as barriers to internal reporting. Additionally, the company plans to establish a safety committee and allocate 20% of its computing resources to safety research.

While OpenAI has yet to announce a specific release date for GPT-5, Altman has indicated that GPT-5 will show significant improvements over its predecessor, GPT-4. He also anticipates that general artificial intelligence could be realized by 2030.
